Chasing Your Health: Reintroduction!
👋 My name’s Chase Merfeld, MS, RDN, LN, CSR. Yes, it looks like alphabet soup, but it’s not that impressive. What it really means: I’m a registered dietitian, a certified specialist in renal nutrition, a husband to an amazing wife, a dad to one very opinionated 5-year-old (seriously, Trey negotiates like he’s running for office), and a firm believer that coffee deserves its own spot on MyPlate.
Now, you might’ve noticed I’ve been a little quieter around here. That wasn’t me ghosting you—I promise. I’ve been deep in the trenches studying for (and finally passing 🙌) my CSR credential. It’s one of those certifications that sounds niche until you realize fewer than 600 dietitians in the entire United States have it. It’s both an honor and a responsibility—plus, it nearly turned me into a full-time hermit with studying. Imagine trying to memorize kidney function pathways and kidney nutrition while your kid yells, “Dad, Luna just stole my waffle!” #realLife
This past year was a tough one from my professional career standpoint. I failed the CSR exam once and felt enormous pressure to prove myself—not just to colleagues, but to me. The stress took a toll on my mental health, and “chasing health” sometimes felt impossible. I was just trying to not be a complete bear to be around, which according to my wife, I was.
But passing the exam gave me something bigger than a credential: a whole new understanding of whole health. It’s not just nutrition—it’s mental, emotional, and spiritual health too. That’s what I’ll be bringing into this space moving forward.
If you’ve ever felt like you’re falling short, you’re not alone. We’ll keep chasing health— the whole kind, together.
But here’s the cool part: I made it through. And now, I get to bring everything I learned (plus a little humility from all the wrong answers along the way) into this space.
✨ And this is where YOU come in. ✨
Because Chasing Your Health was never meant to be a solo act. This is a community. A place where health is more than kale salads and gym selfies. It’s about balance, joy, messy attempts, and celebrating those small wins—like actually drinking water before coffee (baby steps).
Here’s what you can expect as we keep moving forward together:
1️⃣ Nutrition Made Simple – I’ll break down the confusing science into bite-sized, real-life tips. Less “metabolic pathway diagram,” more “how not to lose your mind at Costco.”
2️⃣ Lifestyle & Balance – Stress management, family chaos, meal planning hacks, and reminding you it’s okay to order pizza sometimes.
3️⃣ Real Conversations – I’ll share what it’s like to be a dad, a husband, a dietitian, and a guy who really enjoys breweries and hiking (sometimes simultaneously).
4️⃣ Speaking Up – We’ll also tackle the harder stuff—because ignoring health misinformation helps no one. If we disagree, that’s fine. Respectful debate is welcome. Silence? Not an option.
And of course, you’ll still get recipes, resources, blogs, and my occasional parenting “what just happened” moments. (Trey once suggested we catch a wolf for supper on an upcoming trip. So… buckle up for more of those gems.)
💬 But here’s where I need YOU:
👉 Reintroduce yourself in the comments—are you here for recipes, parenting laughs, health tips, or because you just enjoy a good read ;)
👉 Share posts so we can get the word out on the importance of health along with evidenced based science
👉 Tell me one small health win you’ve had this week or this past year. I’ll go first: I actually meal-prepped and remembered to pack the food instead of letting it rot in the fridge. #Growth
Why reintroduce all this now? Because health evolves. I’ve changed, this space has changed, and we’re still figuring it out together. That’s what keeps it exciting.
So grab your coffee (or water, fine… but I’m sticking with coffee ☕), get comfy, and let’s keep chasing health—one messy, meaningful, funny step at a time.
Thanks for being here. Let’s do this together. 💪
Stay well and keep chasing your health!
Chase
